Junaid Qadir.
AI ethics and governance. AI in education and healthcare. Technology with wisdom.
I direct the IHSAN Research Lab at Qatar University. I work on how artificial intelligence can serve people, starting with communities and classrooms and reaching into healthcare, governance and security. Running through all of it is multiplexity, a framework grounded in Islamic ideals and offered for everyone.
Making artificial intelligence accountable to the people it affects: responsible and human-centered AI, ethical frameworks, and governance and standards for AI in universities and health systems.

Attacks on and defenses for machine-learning systems — adversarial examples, robustness and distribution shift, privacy-preserving and federated learning, LLM safety evaluation, and cybersecurity for networks, IoT and connected vehicles. A long-standing line of work, published across security, networking and AI venues.

Secure, trustworthy and ethical machine learning for clinical care: surgical video, referrals, digital twins, and generative AI for mental-health support, evaluated by whether patients are cared for as well as by accuracy.
A framework for integrating the one and the many in technology, education, health and the human being, with ordered levels of reality and attention to change over time.
Spiritual excellence (ihsan) as a framework for professional and technological practice — doing things beautifully, sincerely and in service of others.
The technical core: deep, reinforcement and federated learning, computer vision, speech and audio, and AI-enabled cognitive networks — the methods behind the applications above.
Deep learning · Reinforcement learning · Vision & speech
Foundational work in wireless and computer networking, mesh and software-defined networks, IoT, and information and communication technology for human development.
Many fields meet the problem of the one and the many: a signal is many frequencies, a network is many networks, a person is body, mind and conviction. Some problems have one right answer; others stay open however long we look. Multiplexity, a framework that originates with Recep Şentürk and is rooted in Islamic ideals, integrates the two. It asks either-or where a single closed answer is warranted and both-and where the question is open, and it keeps many views, levels of reality and change over time in one frame.
Across. Many views and tensions kept in one frame.
Upward. Levels of reality, with higher ends taking precedence over lower means.
Through time. Systems that change, learn and are shaped by history.

Education in the AI Era: Cultivating Multiplex Intelligence and Human Wholeness
How to balance the intellectual, ethical and spiritual dimensions of the human being to meet the dilemmas of the AI era — a synthesis of pedagogy, Islamic spirituality, systems thinking, AI ethics and educational design.
Spiritual Excellence (Ihsan) for Muslim Professionals
Sincerity and intention, vision, character, doing justice and excelling in one’s work, mastery, productivity and barakah (blessing), and service to others — an introduction to ihsan as a way of professional life.

The best way to reach me, for speaking invitations, research collaboration or student enquiries, is by email.
Note to prospective graduate students+
Thank you for your interest in working with me. I receive more emails than I can answer, and I am sorry that I cannot reply individually or advise on funding. Graduate admissions at Qatar University are handled centrally, not through a faculty advisor’s recommendation, so please apply directly and follow the published deadlines and procedures. Please do not read a lack of reply as a judgment of your potential. I wish you every success.
When funded PhD or research-assistant positions open in my group, I advertise them formally on this website and on LinkedIn, and they are filled by open competition. Please watch those announcements and apply through them; unsolicited emails cannot be answered individually, and I am sorry for that. A lack of reply is not a judgment of your potential.
